Patricia Camet
Biography
'Contemporary art can be a good way to condemn bad practices and abuses of powers in all areas.'
Patricia Camet's (Peru,1972) practice presents a strong link to Peruvian heritage and history. She assigns common emotional and facial expressions to each individual ceramic work, personifying a plastic product that previously had no other purpose.
Her pieces are made from residues of cheap and fragile plastic industry packaging, which are then cast through plaster moulds and recycled into ceramic sculptures. These packages symbolise the footprints of civilization, but a majority do not reveal what they once held or what they protected; our association remains uncertain.
She has previously exhibited in Galeria Lucia de la Puente (Lima), Wu Galeria (Lima), Galería del Paseo (Punta del Este). Her work is in the collections of Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de la Universidad Mayor de San Marcos, Lima, Perú; Fundación Luciano Benetton; Micromuseo, Callao Monumental; Museo Real de Arte e Historia, Brabante, Belgium. Camet currently lives and works in Lima.
